Green is in, or so SM says. Actually, the trend of using eco-friendly shopping bags is nothing new to the rest of the world – it makes consumers feel less guilty for spending their money because of the perceived sustainability that comes with the use of reusable shopping bags. Last weekend, SM launched own line of eco-friendly bags. The GreenBag is made out of 100% recycled material (polypropolene), has a life span of about two years, and can hold two regular grocery bags’ worth of stuff.
Just because it’s environment-friendly, doesn’t mean that it has to be boring. The SM GreenBags are designed by renowned Filipino artist Manuel Baldemor and come with four of his illustrations that represent land, air, water, and energy. Baldemor hopes that this project will help people re-asses their spending habits and become more environment-conscious consumers.
The Manuel Baldemor SM GreenBags will be available in all SM malls in the country until April 30, 2009. For every single P500 receipt or accumulated receipt purchase at SM supermalls, a customer can get one SM Supermall limited edition Baldemor SM GreenBag for only P35. Using the GreenBags also has perks for SM Advantage cardholders, who are automatically entitled to two points if they use their GreenBags at SM Supermarkets or Hypermarkets.
