Braun Soft Perfection Epilator Review

October 20th, 2008 with 514 views

One of the things I really hate about being a girl is the hassle of having to deal with unwanted body hair. My legs are the most troublesome part of my body, hair-wise, because I hate how the hair grows back when I shave them, but I don’t have the patience to wait for three weeks for the gross-looking hair to grow back so I can have them waxed professionally. I’m also actually too cheap to pay money to have my legs waxed at a salon or to keep buying DIY wax kits.

A friend of mine told me that using an epilator is her favorite way of getting rid of unwanted hair. An epilator, according to Wikipedia, is a device that removes hair by mechanically grasping several hair strands - kind of like waxing but mechanically done. Since I was pretty sure that Philippine department stores wouldn’t carry anything like this, I decided to order an epilator off Amazon.com and pick it up when I get to the US. The Braun Soft Perfection Epilator got great reviews from customer, seemed easy to use, and wasn’t too expensive ($44).

The epilator came with a cord, a brush to remove the hair from the device, and an instruction manual. All you have to do, said the manual, is place the epilator against your leg at a 90-degree angle, switch it on, and move it against leg hair growth like you would a razor. When I first plugged the epilator in, I was too scared to use it. I expected the rollers to rotate slowly but it was whirring too fast and emitted a scary buzzing noise that sounded as if it was designed to saw my leg off instead of gently plucking my hair. After a while I finally had the courage to try it out.

To my surprise, epilating my leg hair didn’t hurt as much as I anticipated and the device was as easy to use as a razor. It was fun watching the teeth pull my leg hair off my skin and even more fun brushing off the hairs that gathered inside the teeth. I also liked that the Braun epilator was able to remove the really short leg hairs. The only downside is that you have to spend a little more time epilating as opposed to shaving because the epilator doesn’t remove all the hairs in one sweep - you might have to run it past the area two or three times to get out the stubborn shorter hairs.

You can also use the Braun epilator to remove underarm hair, which I loved. I never shave my underarm hair; instead, I get rid of them by plucking them manually, which takes forever. The epilator got rid of all my underarm hair in less than five minutes and for the first time I felt really confident that my underarms didn’t look gross.

All in all I’m very satisfied with how the Braun Soft Perfection Epilator works, and I wish it were available in the Philippines!

Makeup Forever at Sephora

When beauty blogger Sophie found out I was in the US, she just had to give me a list of recommendations of makeup to buy from Sephora or mac since I may need it whenever I appear on TV shows. I had no idea that Sephora is a retail beauty shop or that it even existed. Armed with the list from Sophie, my sisters and I hied off to Nordstrom in Walnut Creek to check out the mac cosmetics but I found out the prices in Nordstrom is similar to the prices in Rustan’s Makati, so why buy mac cosmetics in the US? I might as well buy it in the Philippines.

So our next stop was Sephora just to check out the other recommendation.

Liquid Foundation
For TV, incredibly matte, and telegenic, HD ( new technology of TV ) compatible :
Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Foundation

There were so many shades to choose from the HD Invisible Cover Foundation. I checked the darker shades that would best suit my yellowish skin hue. The Sephora sales lady helped me rub in the foundation on my face just to see which shade suits me. The number 140 was a perfect match.

So I thought I’d end up buying just that but she convinced me to buy the HD High Definition microfinish powder. It’s a universal translucent finishing powder to be applied over foundation or worn alone. It is supposed to set the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. The 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections and completely evens out the complexion for a glowing, radiant look. The Sephora lady applied the microfinish powder on top of the liquid foundation to prove her point. I was impressed with the feel on my face.
