No matter where you are in the world, you can never forget the country you grew up in, even if your home country is constantly ravaged by typhoons, floods, and inept politicians. Black Eyed Peas member Allan Pineda Lindo a.k.a. Apl.de.ap left the Philippines when he was 13 years old, but still retained his nationalism despite a successful musical career and a comfortable life in the United States.
To show his love for the Philippines and the Filipino people, Apl.de.ap and Department of Tourism Chief Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano spearheaded a new tourism campaign called “Take Me to the Philippines.”
The Take Me to the Philippines campaign is truly the first of its kind because it makes use of MTV to tell the world about our lovely archipelago. The campaign started off with the unveiling of Apl’s new single and video, “Take U to the Philippines”, featuring a video montage of our country’s sights and lyrics that reveal local flavor when thinking about places to see in the country. “Take U to the Philippines” is not Apl’s first song about the Philippines; an older single called “The Apl Song” also speaks about his longing for the homeland. However, this new single is the first to be used for the Department of Tourism’s promotional services.
Aside from the music video, the “Take Me to the Philippines” campaign will also be supported by other components like a jeepney-bus roaming caravan covered with graphic art, which will bring the party to various local destinations. An interactive website will also be developed in order to attract more tourists to come to the country.

In the wake of Typhoon Ondoy, the Philippines is hardly the most attractive tourist destination in the world, but Apl also intends to spread awareness about the plight of the displaced Filipino people and gather donations to help us out.
