Face Needling: An Acne Scar Treatment Every Girl Must Try

I started getting acne as early as 11 and 12, and throughout my adolescent and late teens, I’ve always been extremely self-conscious of my acne scars and pockmarks. To try to hide my scarred cheeks, I’d wear my hair down, and I avoided having close-up, high-resolution photos of my face taken. It’s bad enough to have to live acne scars; having my pockmarked skin frozen on digital film is even worse.

Thank god for the new non-surgical acne scar treatments available today! Late last year, I had several sessions of skin needling therapy from my aunt, Dr. Belen Dofitas at the Dermatology Center at St. Lukes Hospital. Skin needling therapy is a non-invasive skin treatment that stimulates the skin to produce more collagen to even out acne scars. The procedure begins with the application of anasthetic cream onto the skin. An hour later, the topical anasthetic is wiped off. A roller made of fine needle bristles is then rubbed gently onto the affected areas, producing microscopic punctures that stimulates collagen growth and allows the skin to absorb more vitamins. Even with the anasthetic, you might experience a slight stinging sensation, but it’s a very tolerable and doesn’t last for long.

You might want to cancel out your social appointments for the next two or three days though! Or invest in very good concealer. After the treatment, you’ll experience temporary redness and peeling, and small scabs will form; however, the redness subsides in a day or two, and the scabs will fall out by the third or fourth day.

After just one session, I saw a significant improvement on my acne scars; they became less visible, the pores on my skin looked smaller, and my face even turned a shade lighter! It’s also cheaper than laser treatments (around 7,000 per session) and will take about four to six sessions to achieve best results. I’ve only had about three treatments, but already I’ve received so many compliments and comments about how my skin looks a lot clearer these days.

Drop me a line if you’d like to have my aunt’s contact information!

  1. how much is for consultation, the kit and the procedure?

  2. Hi Lauren,
Is that the same with dermaroller and skin needling? I had needling and dermaroller sessions but there’s no peeling and little improvement after 7 or 8 sessions. May I have the contact number of Dr. Belen? How much is one session including the kit? Thanks!

  3. I have had sever acne in the past and was left with unattractive scars on my face.

I purchased the Dr. Max Powers Scar Serum from their website online – it was medium expensive for a scar cream – because I needed a solution. The Max Powers Scar Cream does work well, but don’t expect to see results instantly. You need to apply it regularly and consistently for about a month in order to see results. It really does work though.

My scars are much more toned down and less visible.
