Aqua Dots Contain Toxic Components

Aqua Dots is an innovative new toy that allows kids to make shapes out of multicolored beads and fuse them together with water. However, stores like Walmart and Target pulled them off the shelves and the US government made a massive toy recall when it was discovered that the beads are coated with a toxic component that works a lot like a date rape drug if swallowed.

It began when a two-year old boy from Sydney, Australia fell into a shallow coma after he swallowed several beads. The beads contain gamma hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, a banned “date rape” drug which knocks victims out and can even kill them through respiratory failure.

Such a shame that a cute toy like this can be potentially deadly. I’m not sure if they’re still being sold anywhere else around the world but if they are, I suggest you give them to kids who are old enough to NOT swallow things that resemble candy.
