Children should be having fun, not assembling Nike sneakers
Is it true that Nike employs children to assemble the shoes and clothes, makes them work under really horrible conditions, and gives them low pay?
Because I’m becoming addicted to working out, I bought a pair of Nike jogging pants this afternoon. I think it was Athena who told me about the child labor thingie, and when I walked out of U with the pants in a bag I felt a twinge of guilt for buying them in spite of this knowledge. But I can’t help it! The pants were very comfy–my legs didn’t feel like they were suffocating the way they do when I wear jogging pants from brand X–and they looked just right on me. Besides, I have this strange affinity for Nike. I’m not at all a brand-conscious person but for some reason, all of my sports-related outfits have to be Nike; I refuse to wear anything else. Of course, I feel like a really horrible and selfish person for buying stuff from a company that uses child labor. I can’t wear my Nike sneakers without thinking of starving little children sewing the parts together. But hey…comfort over fashion. Comfort over principles, maybe?
ARGH! The left speaker of my headphones is busted. Well it isn’t busted exactly, but the wire is loose and the songs just don’t sound as good anymore. And mind you, they aren’t cheap headphones; they’re the really huge kind. I have my wonderful sister to thank for this, of course. I really hate that she always uses my stuff but never takes care of them. Once I found my denim jacket on the floor of the car, where people can step on it and all. And then when I told her off for using it and just leaving it lying around, she got all sarcastic on me. Isn’t she so considerate? *sigh* I don’t want to listen to music without the headphones because the computer is right next to my parents’ bedroom and my dad doesn’t like loud noises or my taste in music, and it makes me feel bad when I listen to stuff I know other people won’t like. This is why I tolerate my roommates’ music and why I don’t have a boom box of my own at the dorm. I swear, sometimes I think of what other people will think too much. This really sucks.
I guess I will take this as my bad karma for buying Nike stuff and encouraging the practice of child labor. Still…GRRRR.
On a happier note, meet the newest addition to the family!

That’s Iggy, the kitty I conned my dad into allowing me to get.
He’s the most adorable little thing! I swear, cats make the greatest pets.
