I wanna be a subversive

The parents and seniors are going to hold a protest rally at my school on Monday, 7:30 a.m. (does that mean no math class?). Our corrupt nun principal has been embezzling money from us for way too long for the house she’s building for herself at South Cotobato. Not only that, but ever since she became our principal, the quality of the education has seriously deterriorated.

An anonymous letter was sent to several parents to inform them of how bad the situation has become. (click here to read 3 page letter) The parents had a secret meeting this morning and they decided that it would be a long tedious process to write to the school board and the Department of Education. It’s already been done two years ago and in spite of the complaints they sent, no course of action was done to improve the situation. So what else is there left to do? Rally!

On Monday, we seniors will be wearing our batch jackets inside-out so that the all black part shows as a sign of protest. After we are gathered into the Monday morning assembly, the parents will storm the school wearing all black, with a megaphone and placards and all, and the seniors and maybe even the juniors will walk out and join them.

It’s funny, because during beginning of the schoolyear several batchmates and I were already secretly planning to do something like this. And at that time, we weren’t even aware that our principal was facing criminal charges at the Makati Regional Trial Court, and a civil suit at the Department of Labor and Employment. It was going to be our legacy, and although I was glad to be included in this, deep down I had a feeling that it would amount to nothing but all talk and no action. Well. Looks like it’s going to come true after all.

For the first time in my life, I can’t wait for Monday to come.
