Another heart is cracked in two

I don’t normally like watching TV, and neither does my sister. But we always, always look forward to watching Friends. Sometimes when we have nothing to do on school nights we watch Friends, and TV isn’t allowed on school nights. My sister tells me that the character I resemble most is Phoebe because I play the guitar (although I’m a lot better) and because I see signs everywhere even though they’re kind of half-invented. For example, tonight. We were going to have a family dinner in a restaurant somewhere with my grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins. I had no idea which restaurant we were going to and at the last minute, I learned from my dad that we would be eating at a _________ restaurant. When I learned that, my eyes grew wide and my jaw dropped open.

“It’s a sign of the universe!” I exclaimed. You see, Amarant isn’t actually a Filipino; his ethnic background is ________. And we don’t really eat at ________ restaurants. Well we do, but it’s been a while since I had ________ food. That was a very significant sign. Naturally, my sister had to acid rain on my parade.

“Big deal,” she told me, rolling her eyes. “There are _________ restaurants everywhere.”

“But still!” I said. “We could have eaten at the Outback, or Don Henrico’s, or Via Mare. Instead, we’re eating at _______!”

“Whatever.”

And then guess who called me when I got home? Amarant! We only talked for about ten minutes but still. Isn’t that awesome? We are so meant to be together. But actually, I don’t think we are. We’re just too different, and I don’t believe that opposites attract. Not in relationships anyway. We’d probably be fighting 24/7. But he is the kind of guy who won’t cheat on you, which is really really good because I don’t really trust guys these days. Maybe it’s because of my experiences, but a whole lot of them are just horny bastards. Oh yeah, I learned some lousy news today. Amarant told me he might be going to college in Australia. Australia! Whatever for? Isn’t Ateneo or La Salle good enough for him? Oh well…if that’s what he wants, who am I to stop him then? I shouldn’t be a reason for him to stay. Not that he’d actually want to stay because of me or anything. Naturally, I tried to convince him that it’d be a whole lot better to just study here but he’s still undecided. Well undecided is better than definite, right? But it sounds like he really wants to study there. Maybe he’ll have a better future. I don’t know.

I swear, I’ve been meeting all these lousy guys, and now that I actually like a guy who meets all my standards and qualifications he wants to go off to Australia. And seriously–I really like him a lot. I know I have a million crushes, but that’s only because they’re cute. Even though they’re really good-looking, I can’t get along with them that well. They have stupid personalities. Why can’t all the cute guys that I like just study in Australia, and then Amarant stays here? Life is so unfair.

People tell me I’m like phoebe too, which makes no sense to me.. I’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of guys are assholes. They have no respect for women.

I’m afraid it goes both ways. I’m convinced that a great number of girls are just spiteful bitches. The genders have always been at odds with each other like this.
