I’m dreaming of impossible outcomes
Today was great. Know why? It’s actually kind of pathetic but after the entire freakin’ summer, I finally had a short conversation with my crush, Jerry. For those of you who don’t know, Jerry’s this Chinese guy in my review class I’ve been eyeing ever since April. I thought he’d never, ever talk to me because he seemed only interested in Chinese girls. I’m not saying he’s actually got a crush on me or anything but at least he acknowledges my existence! He knows that I’m alive. That’s more than I can say for most of the crushes I ever had (okay, okay, I’m really pathetic, I know).
We had a mock-Ateneo entrance exam today to see if we learned anything, and the English and Math came first. The math part was really hard and a lot of us weren’t able to finish it (I finished it though, but that’s only cos I guessed the answers to the hard ones). My friend Adrianne and I took advantage of the fifteen-minute break to get some sugar into our systems because the next set of tests would be even harder. Logical reasoning and all these patterns and stuff. Blah.
I’m soooo glad I forced Adrianne to go to the cafeteria with me because as we were about to go back to the class room, I saw Jerry come down with two guys who also go to his school (one of which is also Adrianne’s crush). Adrianne, being friendlier than I am, called out, “Hi, classmates!” I only managed to let out a small smile, thrilled just by merely seeing my crush pass me by. To my surprise, he stopped in front of us, smiled and asked us if we finished the math exam.
Taking this wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to finally get to talk to a total stranger, I said cheerfully, “I did! But only because I guessed like, 50% of it. How bout you?”
“Yeah, but I wasn’t able to finish English,” he repiled.
“Oh yeah…I noticed that you came in late. How come? Traffic?” The words were coming out so fast, I had absolutely no idea I was saying them.
“Naw, I had to go to school for a drug test.”
“Drug test?” Adrianne asked curiously.
Jerry grinned. “Yeah, my mom made me take one. She doesn’t trust me for some reason.”
“You take drugs?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.
“Of course I don’t!” he replied immediately.
I think I said something like, “Yeah right” to that.
And then Nicole and Kathe came down the stairs, approached Adrianne and I, and totally ruined the moment. Jerry left to join his friends and I went back upstairs, feeling deliriously happy. (I exaggerate but still…) Tomorrow, I swear I will gather the guts to ask him for his number! I’m not sure how I’m going to do that yet but we might ask him to come along with us to the mall after
class. Hopefully, he’ll say yes, and the opportunity will present itself.*sigh*
To all of you lucky people who get to go to coed schools: you don’t know how boring it can get being stuck in a school with members of your own sex ever since kindergarten.
