But isn’t she pissed that all the other non-conformists listen to that same obscure band
I am so glad that my crazy exams are finally over and done with! Unfortunately I had a real tough time with my Chemistry exam. My teacher gave these real hard questions and some of the things that came out in the exam weren’t included in the pointers she gave us. Just wonderful. My History exam was pretty hard as well because there were too many typos! Although I was able to answer a lot of it correctly, some of the people mentioned in the exam weren’t included in the book or our notes. It was kinda funny cos everyone was like, “What do we care about these people, they’re all dead!” But even though Caligula and Alexander the Great are nothing more than names to me, World History is still an interesting subject and I don’t mind learning about these ancient dudes at all.
Dina, Glyka and I went to ’s house afterwards to relax and unwind after this very stressful week. Nikki’s neighborhood kind of reminds me of the province, peaceful and strangely quiet. But what I like best about her place is that food can be found everywhere at really cheap prices! A stick of barbecue costs ten pesos and a gulaman drink costs three. Three pesos! A small glass of gulaman at my school costs ten pesos. Sometimes they sell isaw–barbecued pork intestines, my favorite food in the world–but today there weren’t any available and I was soooo disappointed because I was really looking forward to eating several sticks. The last time I ate isaw was during cheerleading practice around February and I miss it so much! *sigh* I swear, I will go as far as Guadalupe to get some isaw–I’m that desperate!!
Right now I’m doing some major soul-searching and I think a part of my journey towards self-discovery is meeting and getting to know all sorts of people. So far the only people I’ve tried to get to know are Kriya’s people–the sophisticated, English-speaking, party-goers. But I have never really made an effort to get to know their exact opposites–the trendy, Tagalog-speaking, mall-goers. Ever since I started reading PULP! magazine I found myself slowly being seduced into the world of Pinoy rock. And when Glyka told me that Lee, her friend who works in Defect (a trendy store), wanted to meet me because he saw my picture in her wallet, I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to be exposed to the people I normally snubbed.
So this afternoon I befriended the Defect employees–Mirex, the manager, Lee and Quincey. They’re all like, in their early twenties and the first thing I liked about them was the way they dressed. They look like members of a punk or metal band but maybe they need to dress that way because they work in a trendy store. Lee isn’t cute but he’s very makulit. Mirex seems like a real friendly guy as well but he was too busy doing things to talk to us. He has his long hair in dreadlocks–he’s had it for a month–and I learned that Lee did it for him. Lee said he’d do dreads on my hair for a hundred-fifty bucks and I was like “Yeah!” but I have to wait till the summer for that. Although it isn’t said anywhere in the school policy, I don’t think the Dean of Discipline would allow me to wear dreads to class. She’d have a heart attack! And so will my dad…I’ll have to let him know beforehand, I hope he doesn’t say no. I dunno if I would look good in dreads but it would certainly be an experience.
Quincey has this really awesome haircut–it’s kind of hard to describe but it was cut short in the back and then grown longer in front. If I was a guy I would have my hair cut that way. He’s cute but unfortunately he told me that he’s bisexual–I only go for straight guys cos it would feel really weird competing with another guy for a guy. Just to gross me out, Lee and Quincey were pretending to make out in the dressing room. I think Lee’s bisexual as well but I dunno..it’s hard to tell if anyone’s bisexual or straight these days. Glyka also introduced me to the two guys who worked in 1:15 (another trendy store owned by the same owner of Defect) and I forgot the name of the first guy she introduced me to, but he was quite cute. He didn’t say much though. The other guy, Angelo, really intrigues me because he’s surrounded by this aura of mystery. He leaves you hanging when you talk to him and he’s got this smile that says, “My life is for me to know and for you to find out.” He’s cute as well; if I have a college boyfriend I’d want him to look like Angelo. But the guys at Defect were a lot livelier so we spent more time with them.
Some of the Chiqs stopped by to chill at Defect and that kind of made me wonder if I was being a hypocrite to myself. I mean I actually stayed in a trendy store for longer than fifteen minutes! And I was actually with the Chiqs. I felt really awkward and out of place because I was the only one in khaki pants, the most I will ever wear, and everyone else was in pipes and those long belts. Then again, just because I’m gonna be around these kind of people doesn’t mean I have to dress like them. I mean, it’s my body and what I wear is not anyone’s problem except mine. If people don’t like what I’m wearing, they don’t have to look at me.
I’m going to G4 again tomorrow but this time I’ll be with my barkada. I’ve decided to wear my spiked collar for the first time because it really goes with what I plan to wear. I wonder what the people would think…I bet Denilou would totally freak.
