Another ordinary day, and I’d love to see a little more of you
Today was a typical school day. Fortunately my teachers didn’t give me so much homework tonight…whew! I certainly needed that. Anyhow, I’ve got some happy news, I’m getting a new kitten on Thursday! Actually it’s my mom’s kitten but a kitty is a kitty and it’s practically mine anyway cos it gets to live inside the house. A British lady is giving them away and I’m choosing one after school on Thursday. I can’t wait..I swear, I loooove cats. Even the stray ones with black spots mixed with orange. They’re so unbelievably cute and sweet! I think I’ve already mentioned this but I’ll always grow up with a cat in my house. So what if I’m allergic to their fur? My sneezing is just a minor inconvenience in exchange for their company.
The other day, I saw Kapst leafing through a thick, huge notebook full of Annie’s handwriting. “Can I see?” I asked. Annie wouldn’t give it to me at first but after much pleading and begging she finally handed it over. Turns out that it’s actually a novel, the kind I used to write back when I was in sixth grade or so. It’s supposed to be a horror suspense kind of novel and although her metaphors and descriptions were really impressive, the story was so Sweet Valley-ish. And the physical descriptions of the characters were like the descriptions one would see in a Jude Devaraux novel. They were good but you know…you don’t talk about luscious red lips and a cascade of golden curls in a horror novel.
I couldn’t get past the first five pages of Annie’s book which was too bad…really, she’s quite good. The story just didn’t interest me though; not that I’m bragging but it’s been awhile since I dropped by the juvenile section of the bookstore. But anyhow, it inspired me to write a novel of my own, something I hadn’t done in years. I thought a lot about it and to my surprise it didn’t take long for me to get the jist of my story. I’ve decided to call it Confessions of a Catholic Schoolgirl and it will be half-fact half-fiction, based on my experiences in school and the experiences of others and of course, based on my active imagination. I haven’t actually started writing yet cos I don’t have the time. However, I’m slowly working on the characters and maybe during sem break or whenever I finish my Silverchair picture book, I’ll start. When I’m done I’m thinking of having it photocopied, bound and sent to friends as gifts. And if they say it’s good, I’ll send it to one of the big-shot publishers so that everyone in the whole world will read it. Yeah, dream on, but who knows? They might like it! I’ll be famous! Everybody will kiss my ass. I’m thinking of not using a pen name because I want to let the world know that it is I, Lauryn, who wrote it. But it could be dangerous; I haven’t graduated yet and if anyone from my school gets their hands on it (I doubt it would happen though), it could mean a suspension or worse, an expulsion. Then again, it won’t be counted as slander because I don’t mean to direct it to my school and besides, I could always tell them that I have a very wild imagination. I’m really quite excited about it and I can’t hardly wait to begin. Damn school! I wish it was Christmas break already.
Well other than that, life goes on for me without anything out of the ordinary happening. I was just thinking though..is there any way for me to acquire a British accent without having to go to England at all? It sounds so classy and sophisticated and I think it would be really cool if I could talk like that. Blah..am I making any sense?
